MLB Average Player of the Year Announced

Vin Baker's Deli is very proud to announce its inaugural winner of the MLB Average Player of the Year (APOY) Award brought to you by RC Cola. Thanks to the good people over at Baseball-Reference, we found out what the 2015 MLB Average (per 600 PA) stat line actually looked like. The mediocre 2015 slugger hit at a .255 clip with 16 dingers and 64 RBIs. The average player would also possess a .316 OBP, 8 SB, and 137 total hits.

Coming up with who was worthy of possessing this illustrious honor was a grueling task, but we believe that nobody has earned the title of APOY more than New York Yankees SS Didi Gregorius.

In the first year of the post-Jeter era, Gregorius put up middling numbers that will put him amongst the likes of fellow Yankee greats such as Shane Spencer, Ricky Ledee, and Homer Bush. He hit .262 (on 137 hits) with 9 long balls and 55 runs batted in. He had an OBP of .315 and also stole 5 bases. He played a decent SS for the Bronx Bombers by owning a .979 fielding percentage on 13 total errors.

Gregorius was ecstatic when he was made aware of the great news. He said, "Anybody who walks into Yankee Stadium will tell you the great aura that comes along with it. To now be considered a peer amongst all other Yankees legends that played here in New York is something I only dreamed of before. I would like to express extreme gratitude towards the great people at Vin Baker's Deli and RC Cola." At his press conference, Gregorius said he is looking forward to a "likely disappointing" playoff run by his Yankees team in the near future. He ended his conference by saying, "Hopefully I can win this award a few more times down the road and become the Cy Young of Average. The Didi Gregorius Award. I think that has a nice ring to it." I agree, Didi. We all agree.
